Whitespace x PFAs

Bubbly water drinks like La Croix and Bubly were favourites in my household until we learned about the insane levels of PFAs that are included.  What are PFAs?

Per and Polyfluoroalkyl Substances (PFAs) are some of the nastiest forever chemicals around and they happen to be in thousands of consumer, commercial and industrial products that we use daily.  There isn't agreement yet on the long-term impact of PFAs on humans, the environment and other species but short-term implications are very clear.  Select studies indicate that PFAs cause increased blood pressure, lower birth weight, increased risk of several cancers and more frequent bad hair days.  PFAs recently were linked to infertility in women and causing a 40% less chance of conception.  Hard reality: PFAs are everywhere in the environment and are estimated to be polluting most of the world's drinking water supply.

But there is a little slice of hope for getting rid of PFAs.  Scientists at UBC have discovered a new method for breaking down toxic "forever chemicals" that are in many products that likely use every day like La Croix, Bubly, cleaning supplies, shampoo and dental floss.  Article Link   Study Link

No one has productized this new method and there's a clear opportunity to do so.

As always, if you don't know what's in what you're buying, consuming or supporting, download Think Dirty, scan the barcode and learn.

Back to water for a moment: not every bubbly water is the same and there are greatly PFA-reduced choices available like Spindrift and Pellegrino.

No one has created a PFA-free bubbly water and there's a clear opportunity to do so.

Here's a study on PFAs in water.  If you like drinking forever chemicals, feel free to disregard. Summary
